Turn app features into your first three store screenshots
A practical App Store screenshot workflow: choose a benefit, show authentic UI, and make the opening images explain why the app matters.
The method
- Name the task your audience wants to finish. Replace screen labels with a concrete benefit.
- Capture the actual app state that demonstrates that benefit. Record its locale and app version.
- Give the opening screenshot one promise. Let the next screenshots explain use and show evidence.
- Read the images at phone size. Check the app UI, copy, localization, and device exports before submitting.
The first screenshot earns interest by explaining value. The UI earns trust by showing how the app delivers it. A decorative mockup cannot fill a missing proof point.
Worked example: fictional puzzle app
Feature: explains a logical puzzle move.
Opening: Learn the next move without guessing.
Proof: an actual lesson showing the candidate and its explanation.
Next frame: show how someone opens a hint and learns from it.
Apple describes the first one to three screenshots as potentially visible in search, depending on orientation and previews. There is no universal conversion uplift for a particular layout.
